“Sack Amorim Now, No Point Waiting” – Steve Nicol Tells Manchester United After Derby Defeat

Manchester United’s underwhelming start to the 2025/26 Premier League season has sparked outrage among fans and pundits, with calls for drastic action growing louder. Former Liverpool star and respected football pundit Steve Nicol has joined the chorus, urging the Manchester United board to sack head coach Ruben Amorim immediately, insisting there is “no point waiting.”

The pressure on Amorim intensified after United’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in Sunday’s derby at the Etihad Stadium. The Red Devils looked disjointed, lacked fight, and offered little threat in front of goal, leaving supporters frustrated and questioning the direction of the team.

Speaking on ESPN, Nicol did not hold back in his criticism of the United manager. According to him, waiting longer will only deepen the club’s crisis.

 “Sack Amorim now, no point waiting,” Nicol said. “You can see from the performances that the players either don’t understand what they are being asked to do, or they simply don’t believe in the system. This is Manchester United – they cannot afford to drift.”

Manchester United’s Current Struggles

Ruben Amorim, who was appointed with the promise of rebuilding United into a dynamic, attacking side, has so far struggled to produce consistent results. Despite having a talented squad, the team has looked unconvincing in attack and vulnerable in defense.

United have scored just three goals so far this season while conceding seven, leaving them languishing in the bottom half of the table. Their loss to Manchester City was their heaviest derby defeat since 2023, increasing calls for urgent change.

In his post-match press conference, Amorim was defiant, insisting he will stick to his philosophy and system. “If there are changes to be made, it will be with the players, not the style of play,” he told reporters. But critics argue that this stubbornness may be part of the problem.
