Federal High Court Rejects Sowore’s Evidence

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday rejected evidence presented by activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had in 2011 described former President Goodluck Jonathan as a drunkard.

According to proceedings in court, Sowore sought to rely on the alleged statement as part of his submission in an ongoing legal matter. However, the court ruled that the evidence could not be admitted, stressing that it did not meet the required legal standards for relevance and credibility.

The presiding judge held that such claims must be supported by verifiable and properly presented proof before they can be considered in any judicial process. The court also noted that allegations involving public figures must be treated with caution, especially when they touch on reputational issues.

Sowore, known for his outspoken criticism of political leaders, had argued that the statement was important to his case. But the court’s decision effectively weakens that aspect of his argument, as the evidence was struck out from consideration.

Legal analysts say the ruling reflects the judiciary’s insistence on proper documentation and admissible proof in politically sensitive matters.

The case continues, with both parties expected to return for further hearings as the court proceeds to determine the substantive issues before it.
