Four Gospel Artistes Found Dead in Lagos Music Studio
Lagos State was thrown into mourning on Sunday after four gospel artistes were found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, sparking shock and widespread reactions across Nigeria’s gospel music community.
The deceased were identified as gospel musician Matthew Ogundele and three members of his crew, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and Matthew Awosanya, a blogger popularly known as JoesTv. According to reports, the group had been invited to perform during a birthday praise programme organised by a fellow gospel singer and had decided to stay overnight at the studio after concluding their session late into the night.
Their lifeless bodies were discovered the following morning when the studio owner returned and found the door locked from the inside. After forcing the door open, he raised the alarm and alerted the police. Officers from the Lagos State Police Command visited the scene, took photographs, and confirmed that there were no visible signs of violence on the victims’ bodies.
The bodies were later taken to Mainland Hospital in Yaba, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths before transferring them to the hospital mortuary for autopsy. Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, for further investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, the tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage and speculation on social media, with fans, colleagues, and members of the public calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. Family members and friends described the deceased as dedicated gospel ministers whose sudden deaths have left a huge void in the Christian music community.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue, promising that all necessary steps will be taken to unravel the circumstances surrounding the mysterious deaths. The incident has reignited concerns over safety in entertainment spaces and the need for improved security and emergency response measures in the creative industry.
