She said she had been struggling with insomnia and drank alcohol in the early hours of the morning to help her sleep. Around 9 a.m., she heard a knock on her door and assumed it was her neighbour. According to her account, she was pushed inside the apartment, hit her head, and lost consciousness. When she regained consciousness, she alleged that the man was sexually assaulting her.

Mirabel also shared screenshots of messages allegedly sent by the attacker after the incident, claiming responsibility for the assault and making threatening remarks. The messages triggered public outrage, with many Nigerians calling for the suspect to be identified and prosecuted.

Following the viral video, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed that it had taken notice of the case and was actively trying to locate Mirabel to provide support and investigate the allegation. The agency appealed to the public for information that could help reach the survivor, assuring that all reports would be treated confidentially.
