Tinubu Congratulates Winners of Elections in FCT, Kano, Rivers
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the states of Kano and Rivers, describing the outcome as a reflection of the will of the people and a victory for democracy.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the President praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the successful conduct of the elections, noting that peaceful and credible polls remain the foundation of Nigeria’s democratic system.
President Tinubu urged the newly elected officials to see their victory as a call to service, emphasizing that leadership comes with responsibility, accountability, and commitment to the welfare of citizens. He encouraged them to govern inclusively, irrespective of political affiliations, and to prioritize development, security, and economic growth in their respective states and territories.
“The President commends Nigerians in the FCT, Kano, and Rivers who participated peacefully in the elections, demonstrating their faith in democracy and the electoral process. He congratulates the winners and urges them to serve all citizens with dedication, humility, and transparency,” the statement read.
Tinubu also called on those who were unsuccessful in the polls to accept the results in good faith and contribute constructively to the democratic process. He stressed that elections should not divide the nation but strengthen unity and collective progress.
The President further reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, ensuring free and fair elections, and promoting national cohesion across political, ethnic, and religious lines. He pledged continued support for electoral reforms and democratic consolidation in Nigeria.
Observers have described the elections in the three regions as largely peaceful, although isolated incidents of logistical challenges and security concerns were reported. INEC is expected to release a comprehensive post-election report in the coming days.
As Nigeria continues its democratic journey, President Tinubu urged citizens to remain engaged in governance, holding leaders accountable and participating actively in the democratic process. He concluded by expressing optimism that the newly elected leaders would work towards improving the lives of Nigerians and advancing the country’s development agenda.
