Police Arrest 26 Suspects, Recover ₦145m Stolen Bus in Bayelsa
The Nigeria Police have arrested 26 suspects in connection with a major vehicle theft syndicate operating in Bayelsa State, recovering a luxury bus valued at ₦145 million.
According to police authorities, the arrests followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation targeting criminal networks involved in stealing and reselling high-value vehicles across state lines. The recovered bus, reportedly stolen from a transport company, was intercepted before it could be moved out of the region.
Sources within the command revealed that the suspects were apprehended at different locations during a series of raids carried out by operatives. Investigators believe the group is part of a larger syndicate specializing in vehicle theft, document falsification, and illegal resale.
A senior police official stated that the success of the operation highlights the effectiveness of improved surveillance and inter-agency collaboration. “This arrest is a major breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to dismantle organized crime groups in the state,” the official said.
The police also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate who are currently at large. Additional stolen vehicles and incriminating materials are expected to be recovered as investigations continue.
Residents and transport operators in Bayelsa have welcomed the development, expressing relief over what they describe as a growing threat of vehicle theft in the area. Many have called for sustained security measures to prevent future incidents.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while the recovered bus will be returned to its rightful owner after due process.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reiterating their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
