Nigeria Police Arrest and Repatriate Escaped Fraud Convict to Turkey
The Nigeria Police Force has successfully arrested and repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish fugitive, Acar Huseyin, back to the Republic of Turkey to serve his outstanding prison sentence.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Police said the operation was carried out by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, following a request from Turkish authorities and a red notice issued for Huseyin’s arrest. The convict had reportedly fled Turkey after being sentenced for a series of fraud-related offences.
According to the Police, investigative efforts led to Huseyin’s location and arrest in Nigeria, where he had been residing in an attempt to evade justice. The NCB Abuja worked in close coordination with international partners to ensure his immediate transfer.
The statement noted that the successful repatriation demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to global law enforcement cooperation, stressing that the country will not be a safe haven for fugitives or individuals seeking to escape criminal accountability in their home nations.
Huseyin has now been handed over to Turkish authorities to complete his prison term, with the Police reaffirming their resolve to strengthen international collaboration in the fight against cross-border crime and transnational fraud.
