NSCDC Uncovers Illegal Crude Oil Dump in Rivers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered an illegal crude oil dump in Rivers State, intensifying efforts to clamp down on oil theft and environmental crimes in the Niger Delta.

According to officials, the discovery was made during a routine patrol and intelligence-led operation targeting illegal bunkering activities in the region. The site, hidden within a remote area, was reportedly used for the storage and distribution of stolen crude oil.

NSCDC operatives revealed that several large storage containers filled with suspected stolen crude were found at the location. Equipment used for refining and transporting petroleum products was also recovered, indicating an organized network behind the operation.

Authorities say no arrests have been confirmed yet, as suspects fled the scene upon sighting security personnel. However, investigations are ongoing to track down those responsible and dismantle the syndicate.

Commandant of the NSCDC in the state reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s critical national assets, particularly in oil-producing communities. He also warned individuals involved in illegal oil activities to desist or face the full weight of the law.

Illegal crude oil operations have long plagued the Niger Delta, leading to massive revenue losses for the federal government and severe environmental degradation in host communities.

The NSCDC has urged residents to provide useful information that could aid security agencies in curbing oil theft and safeguarding national resources.
