Floyd Mayweather Charged in Las Vegas Over Alleged $200,000 Bad Check for Luxury Watch

Retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is facing two felony charges in Las Vegas following allegations that he issued a check without sufficient funds to purchase a luxury watch from a high-end resale store.

Mayweather was scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Monday at the Las Vegas Justice Court. Although he did not attend in person, he was represented by legal counsel, according to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. The case has been adjourned until September for further proceedings.

Court records show that the 49-year-old former world champion was charged in April with theft and issuing a check without sufficient funds with alleged intent to defraud.

Prosecutors claim that in December 2024, Mayweather wrote a $200,000 check through Wells Fargo Bank to Las Vegas-based luxury designer resale retailer Gold and Beyond despite allegedly lacking adequate funds in the account at the time. The allegations are contained in a criminal complaint filed by Clark County authorities.

Efforts to obtain comments from Mayweather’s attorney and representatives were unsuccessful as of the time of reporting.

The latest charges add to a series of legal and financial disputes involving the boxing icon. Earlier this year, Mayweather was sued in New York over allegations that he failed to pay rent on a Manhattan apartment. He has also reportedly been involved in financial disagreements with several jewelers and recently filed a lawsuit against his former business manager, accusing him of orchestrating a years-long fraud scheme.

Despite the ongoing legal challenges, Mayweather announced earlier this year that he plans to return to competitive boxing after retirement. He is expected to participate in the “Battle of the Legends” event in Athens, Greece, on June 27, having previously confirmed his involvement in the bout.
