Joe Joyce Eyes Dubois Rematch, Targets World Title Shot

Dubois Targeted by Former Rival Seeking Revenge Fight

Daniel Dubois, who became a two-time heavyweight world champion last month, is already attracting challengers eager for a shot at his title.

The British heavyweight claimed one of boxing’s major belts for a second time after stopping fellow Brit Fabio Wardley in a thrilling contest in May. Dubois is now focused on enjoying a longer reign than his previous 12-month stint as IBF champion.

His first title defence is expected to come in a rematch with Wardley, who quickly activated the rematch clause in their contract following the defeat.

Beyond that, another British heavyweight, Joe Joyce, has expressed interest in facing Dubois again. Joyce handed Dubois the first loss of his professional career in 2020 and believes a second meeting would be appealing.

“It [Dubois rematch] is always an attractive option,” Joyce said

“Before I took [on Zhilei] Zhang, which was obviously a bad decision, I was WBO Interim [champion] off the back of beating Dubois and [Joseph] Parker. So it’s just like a bit of a mistake that I’m going to rectify now.”

Before any potential title challenge, Joyce must first halt a poor run of form that has seen him lose four of his last five fights. He returns to action on July 11 in Russia, where he will face unbeaten Artem Suslenkov on the undercard of the Murat Gassiev vs. Tony Yoka event.
