Injury Scare for Argentina Ahead of World Cup: Lionel Messi Diagnosed with Hamstring Fatigue

Injury Scare for Argentina Ahead of World Cup: Lionel Messi Diagnosed with Hamstring Fatigue. MIAMI Football fans worldwide held their collective breath on Monday after Inter Miami CF confirmed that superstar Lionel Messi is dealing with an injury scare just weeks before Argentina’s World Cup title defense.

Following comprehensive medical evaluations on Monday, the Major League Soccer club announced that the 38-year-old captain has been diagnosed with “an overload associated with muscle fatigue in his left hamstring.”

While early reports indicate the substitution was largely a precaution to avoid a serious muscle tear, Inter Miami offered no definitive timetable for his return, stating:

“The timeline for his return to physical activity will depend on his clinical and functional progress.”

The Substitution That Sparked Panic

The alarm bells sounded during the 73rd minute of Inter Miami’s chaotic 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Union on Sunday night.

After putting on a brilliant first-half display with two assists, Messi abruptly signaled to the bench near the halfway line while clutching the back of his left leg. He was replaced by Mateo Silvetti and walked slowly but unassisted straight down the tunnel to the locker room, bypassing the team bench entirely.

While heavy rain during the second half had left the pitch slippery, Inter Miami head coach Guillermo Hoyos was quick to downplay immediate fears of a long-term layoff in his post-match press conference.

“He really was fatigued,” Hoyos explained. “He was tired, the field was heavy, and rather than doubt, you always say not to take the risk.”

The timing of the diagnosis has injected significant intrigue and anxiety into Argentina’s camp. The defending World Cup champions are scheduled to open their training camp ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on June 11.

According to reports from Argentina, the injury is not considered a tear, and sources close to the national team expect a recovery timeline of 10 to 14 days.
