Davido Appeals to Trump, International Community Over Osun Election. Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The appeal comes just days before the election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, amid concerns over possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
In an open letter titled “A Call for Attention to President Donald Trump,” which Davido shared on social media on Tuesday, the singer directly called Trump’s attention to the situation in Osun State.
Davido wrote:
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.”
He also appealed for international attention and urged authorities to protect voters and respect the outcome of the election.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.”
The singer concluded his appeal with a call for peace and a credible election.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”
Davido’s intervention has generated debate online, with some Nigerians supporting his call for international attention while others have questioned the decision to involve a foreign president in a Nigerian state election.
The singer subsequently defended his reference to Trump as his president, explaining that he holds dual Nigerian and American citizenship.
Responding to an X user who questioned his reference to Trump, Davido wrote:
“He’s my president too i get dual citizenship..any problem ?”
Davido had previously indicated during a livestream with comedian Carter Efe that he would seek Trump’s intervention if anything went wrong during the Osun election.
The singer is also publicly supporting the re-election bid of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is contesting on the platform of the Accord Party.
The Osun election is expected to feature a major contest involving Adeleke, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam.
