Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, a former goalkeeper for the Super Falcons, passed away.
Following an eight-year fight with cancer, Aluko-Olaseni passed away.
Late on Saturday night, the Nigerian Football Federation made this announcement via a post on its X account, @thenff.
The statement said, “After an eight-year fight with cancer, we are devastated to learn of the demise of former @NGSuper_Falcons goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni.
“We are sending the family our best wishes and prayers.
“May the peace of her gentle soul rest.”
Aluko-Olaseni demonstrated exceptional abilities while playing goalie for the Super Falcons.
She also offered her skills to groups like Sunshine Queens and Rivers Angels.
Aluko-Olaseni’s journey with cancer
She said that the disease began to grow in 2017 while she was still a player for the Rivers Angels in the Nigerian Women’s Premier League.
She clarified that she was requested to have surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy as soon as the cancer was discovered, all of which she did.
The retired goalie then told our correspondent that the illness was the reason she had to give up sport.
Aluko-Olaseni, the Falcons’ 2012–2013 goalie, stated she required roughly N5 million for medical care in Nigeria.
