2027: ADC Presidential Candidate Emerges May 25
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections will emerge on May 25, 2026, as part of its official primary election timetable.
According to the party’s schedule released by its leadership, the presidential primary is one of several key activities lined up ahead of the 2027 polls. Governorship primaries are set for May 22, while other legislative primaries will begin from May 21 across the country.
The timetable outlines a structured process leading to the presidential primary. The sale of nomination and expression of interest forms is expected to run from May 5 to May 10, followed by submission between May 11 and May 13. Screening of aspirants will take place from May 14 to May 15, with the final list of cleared candidates to be released on May 20.
The ADC also fixed the cost of its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at ₦100 million, while governorship forms are pegged at ₦50 million. However, the party introduced concessions aimed at inclusivity, offering a 50 percent discount for youths and a 25 percent reduction for women and persons with disabilities.
The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, with governorship elections to follow on February 6.
With growing coalition talks and high-profile political figures reportedly aligning with the ADC, the May 25 primary is expected to play a significant role in shaping the opposition’s strategy ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
