Saudi Arabia declares Holiday for Arafat, Salah day. Saudi Arabia has officially declared Monday, May 26, as the Day of Arafat, while Tuesday, May 27, will be celebrated as Eid al-Adha, also known as Sallah.

The announcement followed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon, confirming the beginning of the Islamic month in which the annual Hajj pilgrimage takes place. The Day of Arafat marks the most important day of Hajj, when millions of Muslim pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat in the holy city of Makkah to pray and seek forgiveness.

Eid al-Adha, one of the biggest celebrations in Islam, comes a day after Arafat and commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims across the world celebrate the festival with prayers, charity, and the sharing of meat with family, friends, and the less privileged.

The declaration by Saudi Arabia is significant because many countries, including Nigeria, often align their Islamic calendar celebrations with announcements from the kingdom.

Pilgrims have already started arriving in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah ahead of this year’s Hajj exercise, with Saudi authorities putting major preparations in place to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage season.

Muslim faithful around the world are now preparing for the spiritual activities and celebrations associated with the sacred period.
