Trump Threatens More Strikes as Iran Tensions Escalate

U.S. President Donald Trump has accused Iran’s leadership of repeatedly breaching the April ceasefire following a fresh escalation of the conflict, describing it as “the most violated ceasefire in the history of the world.”

According to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump said late Wednesday that the United States could soon suspend its bombing campaign. However, he warned that failure by Iran to sign a framework agreement to end the war would trigger further military action.

Trump said the U.S. military launched 49 Tomahawk cruise missiles alongside fighter jet operations, adding that the nearest target was approximately 65 kilometres from Tehran.

The U.S. military stated that the latest strikes were carried out on Trump’s orders, while Iranian state media reported explosions in several southern port cities.

In retaliation, Iran announced the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic.

However, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) disputed the claim, maintaining that commercial ships were still passing through the strategic waterway.
