Nigerian former first-choice goalkeeper keeper of the Super Eagles, Peter Rufai, is dead.

Another painful death occurred today and the Nigerian football community has been thrown into mourning following the sad news and sudden death of Peter Rufai,  a former first choice goalkeeper of the Super Eagles, , who was reportedly dead at the age of 61 on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Popularly known as “Dodo Mayana”, Peter Rufai was a significant figure in Nigerian football and one of the most iconic goalkeepers the country has ever produced. His death came as a shockwaves both at home and abroad, through the entire sports sphere

Peter Rufai served as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper during the country’s most glamorous and remembered  era of football in the 1990s. He represented Nigeria in the following:
