World Health Organization warns on Hanta Virus

The World Health Organization has continued to raise awareness about the dangers of Hantavirus, urging countries to strengthen public health surveillance and improve environmental sanitation to reduce the spread of the disease.

Hantavirus is a rare but potentially deadly virus mainly spread through contact with infected rodents, especially rats and mice. According to health experts, humans can become infected after inhaling particles from rodent urine, droppings, or saliva in contaminated environments. The disease is not commonly transmitted from person to person, but health authorities warn that poor hygiene and overcrowded living conditions can increase exposure risks.

The WHO, in recent public health discussions, emphasized the importance of early detection, public awareness, and proper environmental management in preventing outbreaks. Medical experts say symptoms of hantavirus may begin like common flu, including fever, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, and dizziness. In severe cases, it can develop into serious respiratory complications that require urgent medical attention.

Health officials have advised residents to maintain clean surroundings, properly dispose of waste, seal food containers, and prevent rodent infestations in homes and workplaces. Communities have also been encouraged to avoid direct contact with rodents or areas heavily contaminated by rodent waste.

Public health analysts say global attention toward zoonotic diseases has increased in recent years following several outbreaks linked to animal-to-human transmission. They believe stronger healthcare systems, improved sanitation, and public education remain critical in reducing future health threats.

Although no major global hantavirus emergency has been declared, experts insist that continuous monitoring and public awareness are necessary to prevent localized outbreaks from spreading. The WHO has therefore urged governments and individuals to remain vigilant and prioritize preventive health measures.
