NDLEA Intercepted Large Quantities of Canadian Loud
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a massive shipment of illicit drugs valued at about ₦10.4 billion at the Lagos port, in one of the agency’s biggest seizures this year.
According to NDLEA officials, the shipment contained large quantities of “Canadian Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis often trafficked illegally into Nigeria through international routes. The drugs were reportedly concealed inside imported cargo containers at the port before operatives uncovered them during an intensive inspection exercise.
The agency said the interception followed weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance involving port authorities and security agencies. Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment was allegedly smuggled into the country by an international drug trafficking network seeking to distribute the substance across major cities in Nigeria.
NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), praised the officers involved in the operation, describing the seizure as a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to tightening security at ports, airports, and border points to prevent illegal substances from entering the country.
Marwa also warned criminal syndicates that Nigeria would no longer be a safe destination for narcotics trafficking, stressing that the agency is expanding intelligence operations and strengthening collaborations with international anti-drug bodies.
The seized drugs have since been taken into NDLEA custody, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest all individuals linked to the shipment. Authorities say more arrests and discoveries may follow as the probe deepens.
The latest interception adds to a growing list of high-profile drug busts recorded by the NDLEA in recent months as the agency intensifies its nationwide crackdown on narcotics trafficking and abuse.
