A seven-year marriage between Ramatu Ahmed and her husband Yahaya Salihu was dissolved on Wednesday by an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, due to a lack of love.
After Ahmed prayed for a divorce on the specified grounds, the judge, Muhammad Wakili, terminated the marriage in accordance with Islamic law.
Additionally, Wakili mandated that Ahmed wait three months following the ruling—known as “Iddah”—before getting married again.
The mother of two, Ramatu, had earlier informed the court that she wed Salihu in 2017 in accordance with Islamic Personal Law.
She claimed that she had grown weary of her marital troubles, which had persisted for nearly six years.
“I will never be able to love Salihu; despite family involvement, the situation has not changed. I want my wish to be granted by the court.
She further mentioned that Salihu did not meet her mother when he visited her family home to offer his condolences after her father’s death.
Salihu responded by saying that he no longer loves the plaintiff and that he approved of the divorce, mentioning that he also thought of the plaintiff’s late father as a father figure.
