I’m Not Running From Atiku – Peter Obi
I’m not running from Atiku. Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed speculations suggesting he is backing away from the 2027 presidential race in favour of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Obi stated clearly that he is “not running from Atiku,” stressing that his political ambitions and decisions are based on national interest and the desire to provide effective leadership for Nigerians, not fear of political competition. His remarks come amid growing talks about possible opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In recent weeks, political discussions have intensified over efforts by opposition figures to form a united front capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next election cycle. Obi and Atiku have both been linked with coalition talks reportedly involving the African Democratic Congress and other opposition stakeholders.
Despite rumours that Obi could accept a vice-presidential role in a coalition arrangement, several of his supporters and political associates have insisted that the former Anambra State governor remains focused on pursuing his own presidential ambition. Political observers believe Obi’s latest comment is aimed at reassuring members of the Obidient Movement and strengthening confidence among his supporters ahead of future political negotiations.
The development has continued to generate reactions across Nigeria’s political space, with many analysts predicting that coalition discussions among opposition parties could shape the outcome of the 2027 presidential election. As consultations continue, attention is expected to remain on Obi, Atiku, and other major political figures positioning themselves for the next electoral battle.
