Vice President Kashim Shettima has publicly endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the next governor of Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Shettima made the declaration during the opening of the Nasarawa Investment Summit 2026 held in Lafia, where he aligned himself with Governor Abdullahi Sule, who had earlier backed Wadada as his preferred successor.

Speaking before investors, political stakeholders and traditional rulers, the Vice President assured participants that the state’s economic reforms and investment policies would continue beyond the current administration. He described Wadada as a competent technocrat with strong banking experience capable of sustaining the developmental strides of the Sule administration.

“I want to assure the investing public that, by the grace of God, seated in our midst here is the next governor of Nasarawa,” Shettima stated while addressing the summit audience.

The endorsement is expected to further strengthen Wadada’s growing influence within the ruling APC ahead of the party’s governorship primary. The senator, who currently represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has recently intensified consultations across the state as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

Political observers believe the public backing from both Shettima and Governor Sule could significantly shape the APC’s internal dynamics in Nasarawa, especially as other aspirants continue to show interest in the race.

The summit also featured the unveiling of the “Lafia Declaration,” a commitment aimed at ensuring continuity of policies, reforms and investment agreements beyond the next political transition in the state.
