APC Sets Dates for Presidential Primary Election
Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially announced the timetable for its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections, setting the stage for what is expected to be a high-stakes political contest.
According to the party’s schedule released on Monday, the APC will conduct its presidential primary election between May 15 and May 16, 2026. The exercise is part of a broader lineup of activities designed to produce candidates who will fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming national elections.
The announcement signals the formal beginning of the party’s internal electoral process, as aspirants prepare to contest for the APC’s presidential ticket. Reports indicate that the party has also fixed the cost of nomination, with the presidential form pegged at about ₦100 million, underscoring the high financial stakes involved.

The timetable aligns with preparations for Nigeria’s next general elections, expected in early 2027, where political parties are required to conclude their primaries well ahead of the polls.
Political observers say the early release of the schedule gives aspirants and stakeholders sufficient time to mobilise support, build alliances, and engage party delegates across the country. It also reflects the APC’s strategy to maintain internal order and avoid the disputes that have marred past primaries.
The development comes amid growing political activity nationwide, with parties intensifying efforts to position themselves for the 2027 race. Within the APC, attention is already turning to potential contenders and whether incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will seek re-election under the party’s platform.
As the countdown begins, the APC’s presidential primary is expected to shape the political landscape and determine the direction of Nigeria’s next electoral cycle.
