Politicians, according to All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, are the biggest threat to Nigerian elections.
During a meeting with a group of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials on a verification visit on Wednesday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Ganduje revealed this information.
“I am aware that insecurity is one of the main issues facing INEC when holding elections. He stated, “Everyone will say INEC, but it’s the politicians.”
To address this issue, he did, however, underscore the necessity of political education, saying, “Therefore, our institution will be educating our people from time to time so that they may learn the laws and regulations of elections and what it takes to be a civilized politician.
The goal of the visit, according to the Commission’s delegation headed by Hawa Habibu, Director of Election and Party Monitoring, was to make sure the APC complies with the fundamental standards expected of a political party.
“We are here for the yearly political party verification. It is the commission’s constitutional mandate.
“Where political parties are not in compliance with the constitutional provisions regarding the number, structure of the party in terms of the office in Abuja, auditing of their finances and other issues, we are supposed to find out and issue notices,” Habibu stated.
